Avatar Hits $300 Million Mark

Director James Cameron has done it again.
Despite some bad reviews of the director's latest offering, his movie Avatar has surpassed the US$300 million mark at the box office.
The last time Cameron saw this amount was with his Kate Winslet-Leonardo DiCaprio movie, Titanic. That blockbuster took in US$300 million after 44 days of its release. Avatar, however, surpassed that timetable reaching its US$300 million mark just 15 days of its release.
The epic movie grossed an estimated US$25 million on New Years Day giving the movie an extra boost. If the momentum of its box office returns rises, Avatar will most likely shatter the record held by Spider-Man which took in US$45 million in its third weekend in cinemas.
Coming in second at the box office this New Year weekend is Sherlock Holmes with an estimated US$14.9 million take, while Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel raked in US$13 million landing it in third place. Fourth and fifth place went to It's Complicated (US$7.1 million) and The Blind Side (US$4.5 million).
